As most of you have heard, DC passed new foodtruck regulations that will be implemented starting this December. These regulations aim to better organize foodtrucks and solve traffic congestion and parking issues that are sometimes caused by foodtrucks. The city will designate parking spaces for foodtruck vending in a number of popular areas such as: Metro Center, Union Station, Farragut Square, State Department, L’enfant Plaza and etc. To manage these parking spaces efficiently, DC government has designed a monthly lottery system. Foodtrucks enter the lottery each month and after the draw, they find out where they will be vending for the month. Trucks can still roam in the city, park, pay the meter and vend. However, they must stay at least 200 feet from the designated foodtruck area and park where there is at least 6 feet of unobstructed sidewalk. Some foodtrucks will be given an “off day” in which they are not assigned a spot. On that day, they can still sell as long as they adhere to the roaming rules.
